to attend a personalized writing retreat in my home (*see note at end of page). Enjoy lovely accommodations in a quiet mountain setting with time to read, pray and write. I’ll be available at scheduled times to serve as your writing coach.
You can spend all your time in “writing mode,” or switch to “retreat mode” and take in some of the wonderful sites in Colorado. My prayer is that God will meet you during your stay, that you’ll gain new understanding and skill as a writer, and that you’ll be inspired in your vision to encourage others through the written word.
We live five miles north of the Air Force Academy on the mountain side just 20 minutes north of Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs airport is a 45 minute drive southeast of us; Denver International Airport is about a 75 minute drive to the northeast. The area boasts some of the country’s best hiking, biking, skiing (a two-hour drive), and white water rafting in the country. Enjoy special attractions like the Garden of the Gods, the Olympic Training center, Focus on the Family, and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, and Seven Falls. Go to http://www.visitCOS.com
During your stay, the lower part of our home—about 1300 square feet that includes a full bath, two bedrooms with queen beds, a living room with a pull out couch/bed, a small kitchen, a “wall of books” and exercise equipment—is yours to enjoy. A hot tub with mountain views awaits you just outside your door which has a separate entrance from the main house.
My goal is to provide you with a Colorado vacation that is less expensive and more personal than staying in a hotel. A suggested donation of $40 per person per night is appreciated. If you want to rent the entire area for a family then a suggested donation of $150 per night is appreciated.
Coaching sessions are a separate fee. I charge on an hourly basis. Coaching sessions are generally a combination of manuscript review and personal instruction. Talk to me about putting together a coaching package tailored to your writing needs.
A continental breakfast is included during your stay.Other meals are on your own.
I have a passion to equip other writers. The world in which we live desperately needs messages of hope and encouragement. My passion is to help other writers skillfully communicate their stories, and their wisdom, to a needy world.
I have connections in the publishing world. I’ve worked closely with five major Christian publishers in the publishing of my own books. As your coach, my contacts become your contacts. I’ve been blessed to receive a few writing awards and to see my work published in dozens of languages. I also understand the process of self-publishing and can counsel you on those options.
I can help you with media interviews. In connection with promoting my own books, I’ve been on thousands of radio programs such as Midday Connection, Focus on the Family, Family Talk, and Family Life Today. I’ve also appeared on numerous TV programs so I can help you prepare your talking points and know how to walk into the interview with confidence.
I can help you with your talks. I’m an international speaker so if you need to know how to secure speaking engagements, organize a talk, or prepare a Powerpoint presentation, I can help with that too.
Most importantly, I will seek God with you. I begin all my coaching sessions in prayer. If you have gifts in the area of writing and speaking, God is the One who gave you these gifts and He knows best how He wants those used. Contact me if you are interested in putting together a writing retreat package that will combine a little vacation with a lot of forward progress on your writing goals and dreams.
Note: All writers accepted for a retreat must first participate in a phone interview with Lorraine and submit writing goals/writing samples. Contact Lorraine now for consideration and schedule availability.
My writer’s retreat at Lorraine’s home was amazing from the moment I entered the inviting front porch bathed in morning sun to the quiet evening sunsets that inspired me to write and keep writing. The peaceful, majestic setting at the edge of the mountains gave a unique and beautiful view of God’s creation. Mesmerizing sunrises, perfect 75 degree days, and animals–fox, deer, a baby fawn and even a pair of elk—crossed my path during my contemplative walks. Never did I feel like a stranger or uncomfortable in Lorraine’s home – it felt like my own home only without the stress, distractions and interruptions.
Lorraine gently walked me through each step of what I didn’t know and gave me the tools of storytelling, showing and tightening up what I had written. She quickly assessed what I needed and gave me instructive assignments within hours of my arrival.
Lorraine knows how to get to the heart of the writer and to show the writer how to get to the heart of her reader. What a blessing to experience this kind of guidance from such a gifted woman of God! Thank you, Lorraine, for the four most productive four days of writing I’ve ever had!!
